Artist Terms

Thank you for considering exhibiting your art at the Chez Marche Cafe! Here are our terms for hanging a show at the Chez.

1. The Chez has a hanging rail for all hangable art, but
Exhibitors are to provide their own equipment
for all other display (tables, shelves, racks, background
supports, etc.), and placement of such will have to be worked
out with the Chez management.

2. Eligible are: painting (all media); graphics
(process prints are allowed providing they are
individually signed); pastel; sculpture and
carving; drawing; ceramics; stained glass; blown
glass; fiber; batik, pysanky, and other forms of
free-hand wax resist; art metal; collage; paper;
enamel; and photography. All hangable art must be framed.

3. All work must be original in concept and
execution. Entries will be screened for
compliance with rules. Unless specifically requested,
unacceptable items
include handicraft, craft items,
decoupage, assembled or artificial florals,
“parlor craft,” “hobby craft,” “strung
jewelry,” or “country craft” not
conventionally recognized as fine art;
commercial productions; plastic or foam;
pieces made with the use of patterns,
plans, kits, molds, prefabricated or
die-cut forms, or stencils, including
repetitive or identical items, even if of the
individual’s own design (for example:
wooden toys, furniture, etc.), unless
completely and individually free-formed;
and derivative items or any production
which may be deemed inappropriate as
fine art. If you have questions about what
is acceptable as fine art, please call or
send slides or photographs of your work.

3. Chez's commission is 20%. Chez will handle sales transactions. Payment to artist will occur within 60 days of the close of the show. Artists are responsible for payment of Wisconsin sales tax.

4. Artists agree to not hold the Chez responsible for any accidental loss or damage. All reasonable efforts are made to ensure the safety of art entrusted to the Chez. Works hanging at the Chez are covered to $25,000 by our policy.

5. If the artist will be able to attend such an event, and if the artist has at least 50 percent of the items in the show for sale, at their normal rates, the Chez will provide an opening reception with light refreshments that reflect the food normally served at the Chez, as well as normal publicity and promotion. (Details of what we consider "normal" are available on request.) Otherwise, the details of an opening reception will have to be negotiated.

6. Artist or artist's agent agrees to deliver and pick up the art at times to be scheduled. Artist agrees to assist in the hanging and "take down" of the show, either personally or through an assigned agent.
